Race Day FAQ’s

There is a chance of rain Saturday morning on Race Day. We will continue on as planned unless the weather becomes severe. We will keep you updated as we know more, here on our website and on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/JAAngelinaCounty

Do you allow MP3 Players and music devices?

Yes!  We understand that runners of all skill levels enjoy music while they run.  While there will be cones to make the course in most areas, we do not have a closed course.  There will be times when you will be sharing some streets with cars. We ask you to be alert and be aware of your surroundings.

Where are the hydration stations located on the course?

Hydration stations are located every 1.5 miles along each course.  Each station will be stocked with Powerade provided by Lufkin Coca Cola, water and first aid kits.

Can I run with a running stroller or with my dog?

Running strollers are allowed, unfortunately pets are not.

What does USATF Certified mean?

USATF certification means the course has been measured and the distance verified according to the USA Track And Field measuring standards.  All 3 Race For Success Courses have been certified according to these standards.

Are there hotels within walking distance of the start/finish line?

No, the closest hotel is at least several miles away. You will need to drive to Slack School.  Please see www.RaceforSuccessLufkin.com for local hotel listings and special race day rates.

I am coming to the race from another city or state. Which packet pickup location should I choose if I don’t want to wait until race morning?

Packet pick up locations will be announced closer to race day.  Please watch your emails, Facebook and/or the website for more details.

Is there any entertainment at the Race for Success

We do provide live music, and booths for runners and spectators to peruse before or after the race.  Stay tuned for vendor information.

When would be best to arrive?

Same day registration and packet pick up will be available starting at 7:00 am.  For those picking their packet up the morning of, please allow plenty of time.  Races start at 8:00 am for the 1/2 marathon, 8:10 am for the 10K and 8:20 am for the 5K.   Runners are encouraged to arrive early, grab a race map and check out the vendors.

What if I arrive late? Can I start and run the course anyway?

Since the first several miles of the course may not be well marked, we cannot guarantee your ability to stay on course and receive police protection if you arrive and start late. We would not recommend starting more than several minutes after the start time.

Is it possible to drive the course ahead of time?

Absolutely! Race maps are provided on the home page of RaceForSuccessLufkin.com.  Feel free to check out the course before race day.

What happens if at some point of the course I decide I cannot finish?

We will have vehicles on the course to pick up those that feel they must quit. Although they will be roving the course, it will help if you look out for police or volunteers manning the course so they can radio your need for help.

Is there medical help available on the course?

Yes!  An ambulance will be on site for safety purposes during the race.  We will stock each water station with medical supplies. All police and volunteers  will have the ability to call for ambulance assistance if needed.

What sports drink will you be serving and is it available at every water station?

Our sports drink is Powerade provided by Lufkin Coca Cola  and we will have it available at every water station.

Will there be port-o-lets on the course?

Yes. Port-o-let locations to be announced.

Where should I park for the event?

We have free parking at Fair Park with plenty of spaces just a block or two from the event. There limited entrances to the park event morning so allow extra time to arrive. However, if you arrive after 8 a.m. there is a $10 fee to park at Fair Park.

Will photos be taken along the course and at the finish?

Yes, photography will be provided and each participant will receive a courtesy 4×6 print of their choice from our race photographer.

Once I register for the event, will I be sent instructions about the event?

Once you register, if you provide an email address, we will send a pre-race email providing you with all event week information and links you should need.   We will also keep you posted on any applicable race day information leading up to the race.

If I sign up for the half marathon and I later decide to switch and just run the 10k, is this possible?

You can switch to the shorter distances. However, there will be no refunds made allowing for the lesser fees of the shorter distances.  Changes can be made to your registration if you register online through Active.com

What types of running surfaces are on the course?

All courses are on paved streets entirely.

What if I cannot attend and participate after entering?

There are no refunds. After the event if you will email the event, we will be happy to mail you your event shirt. You are also able to transfer your registration to another runner when you register through Active.com.

Are there mile markers?

There will be mile markers at each mile in all races.
